Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mouvedre South Australia 2009 - The contemporary Bin 2 style is based on warmer vineyard sites like the Barossa Valley and is aged in older oak to emphasise just how well the spicy savouriness of mourvèdre complements the plush richness of shiraz.
Penfolds Bin 2, from its first vintage in 1960, was the result of experimental work by Penfolds Winemakers to create a medium-bodied, soft-finishing 'Australian Burgundy' style, based on Shiraz. Mourvedre grapes were added to soften the Shiraz's intense varietal characters.
Bin 2 is a multi-regional blend drawing fruit from warmer vineyard sites including Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. The two varieties complement each other well, making an easy drinking wine which is not overtly concentrated, but has plenty of fruit, texture and flavour length.
