Hands down the most beautiful and best Calico Red so far! Concentration, richness and a smooth appeal with plenty of spice, dark cherries and hints of complex tarry elements. Its smooth and approachable but with a substantial feel, plenty of depth and lingering finish to satisfy discerning palates. The six grapes each contributes very distinct qualities and elevates the wine into another level compared to prior vintages. A distinct Washington State blend with plenty of earth and mineral terroir driven components.
WA 88 The 2008 Calico Red is composed of 47% Syrah, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 16% Malbec, with the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot aged for 20 months in seasoned French and American oak. It offers up notes of cedar, spice box, violets, herbs, and assorted black fruits followed by a forward, savory, friendly red that finishes with no hard edges. Drink this excellent value over the next 3-4 years. -
