The wine has a beautiful nose, and wonderful flavour and body. Absolutely beautiful. As well as a fabulous winery this is also a luxury resort for discerning wine lovers in one of Tuscany's most beautiful areas. 50% Merlot 40% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Syrah & Petit Verdot.
This wine is the flagship of the estate. Hand selected grapes are gently crushed, then the fermentation takes place over 10 days under temperature control, with maceration on the skins continuing for 22 days. The wine is then racked in Allier oak barriques for malolactic fermentation and then aged for 12 months.
When Ferruccio Ferragamo, CEO of the world renowned design firm of Salvatore Ferragamo stayed at Il Borro back in the early 90's he fell in love with it and decided to buy it. He has been producing world class Tuscan wines from there ever since.
In a family famed throughout the world for its shoes, Salvatore Ferragamo has taken the road less travelled. About an hour south of Firenze (that's Florence to us) the Ferragamo family found a little piece of heaven. The Duke Amedeo of Savoia of Aosta had used it as his Tuscany wild game hunting reserve. The Ferragamo family purchased it in the 1993 with the intention of bringing a brave new vineyard into the world.
The wines themsleves are the product of a lot of determination and investment. Sangiovese is planted along with a mix of 'international varieties' (that is, French) to make classic Tuscan and 'super'Tuscan' wines. If the wines have anything in common it is a refinement and elegance that sets them apart from similar concepts. Winemaker Niccolo D'Afflitto is highly regarded for his skill as a winemaker and the Ferragamo's desire to be the best at everything they do means that these wines tend to outshine the competition.
