 Product Description

This smooth, velvety, sweet cheese from Holland bears little resemblance to the chalky, tart, fresh chevre that many Americans dislike. With its caramel scent and cooked-milk taste, goat Gouda appeals to our sweet tooth. The semi- firm paste is bone-white -- goat's milk has no carotene and smooth. The aroma suggests sour cream; on the tongue, the cheese is silky, salty, moist and mild, with a concentrated sweetness. It lacks complexity and length, but not every cheese aspires to greatness.

Perfect Pairings

Pair this Gouda with an amber ale or other beer with some caramel notes or a dessert wine that has some butterscotch aromas, such as an oloroso sherry.

Young Goat Gouda has a mildly sweet flavor and supple texture to it that is enhanced by the high tannins and boldly flavorful blackberry and bramble elements in a Petite Sirah.

Gewurztraminer boasts good acidity, a faint fruity sweetness, and apricot, cinnamon, and honey tones. This easy-to-drink delight contrasts beautifully with the milder, faintly sweet flavor of Goat Gouda. When aged, Goat Gouda still pairs well with this wine, which brings out the cheese's butterscotch tones and crystallized crunchiness.
